Dr. Larry Mayer is interviewed about the rapid expansion of efforts to map the Arctic seafloor as a result of the equally rapid degradation of sea ice over the past 15 years.

Charting the watery depths could transform oceanography but some ecologists fear that such a map might aid those who seek profit in the previously unattainable depths of the Earth.

An EdgeTech 6205 MPES has been provided to CCOM and will be utilized in The Fundamentals of Ocean Mapping course this fall and deployed in other research activities at the Center throughout the year.
